2009

(Originally posted on www.zacharyforget.com Dec. 30th, 2008)

It's almost 2009.

That's one year away from 2010.
Which is 10 years after the year 2000.
It's a little overwhelming to think of how much life has changed, both for me, and for the world.  Just 5 years ago, I was living in Canada. Two years ago, I started a relationship with my first girlfriend (and as I'm sure anyone reading this knows, my only gf xP)  Just last year, I was part of a leadership team in a youth group for the first time.
And think about the world.  9 years ago, everyone was worried that the computers that run our lives would crash, they weren't sure they'd be able to handle the 0's in 2000 (which sounds sort of funny if you think about it.)  Just a few months ago, the world started going a little crazier.  Just last month, the U.S. elected its first black president. Right now, most of the world is slowing going down the drain as banks declare bankruptcy and people talk about a depression.
Honestly, the more I think about it, it looks reeeaally bad outside, there's so much bad stuff going on.  Sometimes I stop to think about it, and get worried, but most of the time I can't.  I'm too busy taking care of my own stuff, worrying about my own stuff, and (most importantly) enjoying life and living it for God!  I truly believe that holding onto Him will get me through whatever is coming in the months and years to come, and as this new year begins, I really want to grab ahold of Him and not let go!
This next year is so exciting to me, I'm going to start going to a Seminary here in Vallarta once a month for this semester, I'll finally graduate high school (darn GED) and I'll hopefully go on a YWAM sometime this summer!  Plus, I'm involved with two awesome youth groups, and I'm surrounded by amazing people!
And now I'll talk about what happened tonight at church :D
The Pastors said that tonight was going to be special, about restoration.
I got there early for band practice (by the way, my fingers hurt... if anyone cares)  When it was time to actually play, the Pastor let everyone in who had been waiting outside, and we just started to make NOISE! (I really felt like we were at the beginning of some huge concert, it was so cool!!)
After we finished playing, Pastor Antonio started talking about the Prodigal son, and how everyone talks about him, and how he left home, then hit rock bottom, then finally came back. Pastor talked about how both brothers had problems, because the older one was jealous, and didn't realize the blessings he had, his heart was hurt by the way he  felt he was treated by his father
And then after he finished (he didn't talk for a long time) they handed out these looong peices of cardboard-paper, and they asked us to write down all the things that happened this year that hurt us, or the things that were going on that we didn't like (I cried while I was writing!  It was really emotional.)
I'm not sure if it was sadness, God, shame (but probably a mix of the three) Later, as we were writing, Pastor told us that with those loooong peices of paper, we were going to put them on his son, Alan (who was sitting on a chair)
As we finished writing all the things that had hurt us, we would go and put them on Alan, the pastor's son.  And Pastor talked about how God sent His Son to do that very thing, but not take peices of paper, but our actual sins, and pain, so we didn't need to bear them anymore
And then after everyone put them on Alan, we were told to take one off, and then put it in the fire (and they had a metal pot where we'd put the stuff into the fire.)  It was really emotional for me, because as I reflected on the past year, I saw all the good, but I really noticed all the bad that just gets shoved under the rug, and I realized how much I had been hurting!
My prayer for everyone who reads this (and even my friends who don't -I forgive you-) is that you learn to let go of your hurt, give it to Jesus, and start this new year fresh!

All Day

"I don’t care what they think about me
It’s alright, they’ll get it one day."

There are so many people who think I’m crazy, that can’t understand what I believe, that don’t WANT to believe what I believe.  They don’t want to trust God, they don’t want to give up their self-reliance.  Some people are just so stubborn that they’d rather stick with the evil they know, rather than step out and find something truly amazing.

I hope they see that there’s something different in me, I know some people have, becasue they’ve told me.  I also know I don’t always practice what I preach, but guess what! I’m human, I mess up!  But theg good thing, this Person Whom I try to "Love with all my heart and with all my soul and with all my mind and with all my strength" (Mark 12:30) is ALWAYS ready to pick me up when I fall, and forgive me when I mess up.

"Anyone around can see
Just how good You’ve been to me
For all my friends that don’t know You
I pray that You would save them too."

My prayer for everyone who reads this blog, and all my friends who don’t get a chance to read this, is to know Jesus as their Savior, and friend.  And to those of you who already have a relationship with God, my prayer is for you to never stumble in your walk with Him, and to grow in your relationship with God, because God is the ONLY One who will never fail you.  Friends fail you, family will fail you, I’ll fail you, but God will NEVER fail you.  He’ll ALWAYS be there for you, He is perfect in every way, and He wants to know YOU more!

(The song doesn’t go quite like that, it jumps around a bit... if you haven’t listened to it, listen to it NOW!)

All Day, by Hillsong United

I don’t care what they say about me
It’s all right, all right
I don’t care they think about me
It’s all right, they’ll get it one day

I love you, I’ll follow you
You are my, my life
I will read my Bible and pray
I will follow you all day

I don’t care what it costs anymore
Cos’ you gave it all and I’m following you
I don’t care what it takes anymore
No matter what happens I’m going your way

All Day
All Day now
All Day
I’ll follow You

Anyone around can see
just how good you’ve been to me
For all my friends that don’t know you
I pray that you would save them too

Old Blog Post — Part 2

A Rojo Concert Review, by Zachary Forget

On Saturday night, after the praise and worship, the pastor talked about his Honda CR-V. He said he saw someone leaning on it, and the pastor asked him to get off. The man asked the pastor why he was being so uptight about it, and the pastor asked him if he could afford to fix it if he broke it somehow. The man said that he wouldn't be able to afford that, and then the pastor said "that's why I want you off my car."

Why was that pastor so protective of that car? Because it was his! It was his possession, and he didn't want his possession ruined.

How much are you worth?

If you answered "more than a CR-V" or "I'm priceless" then you would be 100% right, because you ARE priceless; you're worth more than you could possibly imagine.

Your parents are always spending money on you; they have a house so you can live in it, they pay for your school, for your food. They work so they can afford you. They do the same thing day after day after day after day, just so you can have the things you need and want. Why would they pay for all that stuff, and work so hard? Because you're priceless to them! The pastor's car depreciated as soon as he bought it, because used cars are not worth as much as new cars, but YOU increase in value every day! When you were born, your parents loved you, but they didn't know you. Now, they know you better than anyone else, and they love you MORE, because you're more important to them now than you were when you were born.

God thinks you're so valuable that he sent his ONLY Son, Jesus, to DIE for you (John 3:16.) Why would God do that for you? Because you're priceless to Him!

You're priceless, so why would you allow some guy, or some girl, to treat you like a possession, when you know that you're worth so much more!?

The pastor hammered the fact that we should not settle for anyone, we should wait until we find that perfect someone, because God wants you to be treated as a child of God, and not as some object, or some trophy.

On Sunday, we were in line for over an hour, because the line was INSANE. After we finally got in, we had to wait (woo hoo) while they set up the equipment. Their praise and worship band played first, and it was AWESOME (I think the drum player was showing off because of the other bands that were there, he was insane!) After them, this local band player. I wasn't that impressed by the vocals, but their rhythm guitar player was a really good rapper, and his singing was definitely the highlight of the vocals. However, they played their instruments amazingly well, and just listening to them play was awesome.

After the local band had finished, ROJO got up to play!! I recognized a few of the songs they sang, but there were a few that I just had to clap along with (which always makes it a little more boring, in my opinion.) After they had played for a while, they sat down and went acoustic, which was SO cool. They first sang a common praise and worship song, and then the lead singer began on talking about worship. He talked to us about how when some people worship, they make weird faces, or they change their voices, or they lift up their arms, or they close their eyes, or they jump, or they kneel down (he said it seriously, but it wasn't boring, because he was very animated, and very funny, as he said it.) But, he said, none of that really matters. You can do it if you want to, or if it makes you comfortable, but worship is about praising and worshiping God. When we do that, God doesn't look at our outward appearances, He looks towards our heart. He examines us to see if we are praising Him with an honest heart.

After that, he had all of us put our arms around the people beside us, and they sang a song. After that, they got all of us to stand, and asked us to put our arms around our neighbors again, but this time, pray blessings over them. He also told us not to do it silently, but to do it out loud. They proceeded to play a slow song while 500 teenagers began to call out to God, praying blessings over the random strangers on the left and right of them. It was very powerful, to say the least.

After that, we sang a few more songs, and then the concert was officially over. I left feeling extremely impressed, and more than a little blown away to see the way this Mexican band gave glory to God. They could focus more on music, and money, and become more successful… instead, they play music for GOD, and they are also very gifted at getting up and telling others what God has laid on their hearts.

Old Blog Post — Part 1

Some random things I've written and didn't want to lose.

-------------------------------------------------

Standing Firm -- given by Anne Frank

Jesus never changes; He is consistent.

"Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
'Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.'

Hebrews 13:5

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
Hebrews 13:8

Know that the Bible says that God NEVER changes.

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Psalms 18:2

Anne went on to give an example where she was holding Nancy's hand, and even when Nancy tried to let go, Anne kept holding onto her.
That's like God. Even when you can't hold onto Him any longer, He will continue holding on to you.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 NASB

Know your enemy. The Devil is scheming against us in order to attack God, because we are the apple of God's eye, we are His favorite creation. That is why we are to

"11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." - Ephesians 6:11-17

The belt of truth represents honesty in our lives.
The Breastplate of Righteousness is what protects our heart, where Jesus lives in us.
"Fitting your feet with readiness" means reading the Bible and preparing yourself.
The Helmet of Salvation covers our head, our mind, our thoughts.

Ephesians 6:18 tells us the importance of prayer. And not just for ourselves, but for our brothers and sisters in Christ, so that we don't fall into temptation

"In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other's spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out." Ephesians 6:18 (The Message)

God's Plan for US! -- Written by me

First of all, I'm going to use a probably lesser known Bible verse to try and illustrate what I'm talking about.

The virgin will give birth to a son and call him Immanuel.
--Isaiah 7:14

In Luke 1:34-35 Mary says to the angel Gabriel "How will this be, since I am a virgin?" Gabriel responds, telling her that "The Holy Spirit will come down on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you."

Matthew 1:22-23 says that "All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 'The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel1' "
(1Matthew is quoting Isaiah 7:14, stating that through the virgin's birth, Isaiah's prophecy was complete.)

So, now to the point. How did Isaiah know all this was going to happen? Because God let Isaiah in on one of His plans, and because it was God's will for it to happen. We might not hear from God in this kind of way, but that doesn't mean that He doesn't have a plan for us.

Sometimes you may wish that you were born in a different time, or that you lived somewhere else. But right now, God wants you living HERE and He wants you living NOW.

He knew that YOU would be living wherever you currently live (I'm guessing Mexico if you go to youth group) and God knew that YOU would be alive at this exact time, because He has a plan for YOU.

So that means we've already got two things going for us: We're living WHEN God wants us, and we're living WHERE God wants us.

Now, what can we do to please God even more, and live as He wants us to live? By living HOW He wants us to live.

Sometimes that might not be easy, and sometimes you will mess up (I mess up aaall the time, but He still loves me Very Happy) All God wants from you is a willing heart, and He WILL help you with the rest.

If you believe that God has a purpose for your being here; and if you want His help in doing His will, and living the way He wants you to, then please pray this prayer with me.

Dear God, I thank You for placing me here and now. Sometimes I would rather be somewhere else. When I think those thoughts, please help me remember that You have me here for a reason. Lord, I'm willing to serve you God, I pray that you bless my heart so that it is always willing to do Your will, and I pray you show me Your will.
In Jesus name, Amen.

Application: Now that you've read this, how are you going to live for God? Try paying more attention to your circumstances and look for things that God wants you to do for Him.
